The Bombay High Court, in the matter of Mr. Sanjay Damodar Kale Versus Ms. Kalyani Kale, Criminal Revision Application No. 164 of 2019 has reiterated that maintenance should be commensurate to the status of the husband. It was held:

in this era of inflationary economy, where the prices of commodities and services are increasing day by day, the income from the divorcee-wife’s business of beauty parlour, which has an element of seasonality, may not be sufficient to support  her livelihood and afford her to maintain the same standard of living to which she was accustomed to when she was residing with her husband before the marital tie was severed by the decree of divorce by mutual consent.
