Differentiate between an Attorney, an Advocate, lawyer and Solicitor.
Lawyer – Is a professional who has a law degree or is a field expert in any specialised laws.
Advocate – Is one who practices law and has the capacity to represent or appear on behalf of a client in the court. It is also defined under sec 2a of the advocates act, 1961.
All Advocates are lawyers but all lawyers are not advocates.
Solicitor– It is a person who holds a degree in law and provides legal knowledge and files documents and paper work on behalf of the client but does not represent them in court.
All advocates can be solicitors but all solicitors are not advocates.
Attorney – Is a person who acts on behalf any another person in legal and business matters.
